Feature: Old Blog #1

Do you remember this thing called MySpace?  Haha.  It seems so archaic now with the invention of Facebook.  Maybe 10 people in the entire world knew that I kept a blog on MySpace.  I've decided to copy and paste it for my records and share tidbits with you here.  This is one from August of 2007.  While it is over 4 years ago, when I read this the other day it was if I could have written in 4 days ago.  It still rings true and it's still very sad.

Why does God do what He does?

Last night on the way home from my 5-yr class reunion, Brian and I found ourselves on Rt 62 pretty late at night when we came upon a bad accident, with the road completely blocked and lights flashing all over.

We stopped and notice two mangled bikes, massive amounts of glass, and a car overturned in a horse pasture. A man approached our car and told us that a man (presumably drunk) had went left of center and hit two Amish boys on bicycles.  He then said, "One of them is in the ditch.  He didn't make it."  The guy then told us how to get around the accident.

Brian and I just sat there for a moment, pretty flooded with emotion. We didn't want to move, we just were thinking about the severity of what had happened.  I wanted to cry.  Then puke.  We had passed two young Amish boys on our way up to Millersburg.  What it if was them?

Brian drove around but the rest of the ride home, instead of spurred by laughter about the reunion, was pretty quiet.  I was so wrapped up in the thought of that Amish boy that lost his life and the family that would never speak to their son again.  I wondered if the boy had a relationship with Christ and I prayed that his family would lean on Jesus.

The things that have happened this summer have really made me question why God does what He does.  I am not questioning His omnipotence, or His glory, just really WHY???
But you know, I could also turn the tables and ask WHY would He send His only Son to die for ME?  I am nothing.  I am so small and so insignificant and soooo...well...UNPERFECT.  There is nothing I can give to come close to what Christ did for me.

And so I offer, to those who are reading this, please realize how FAST life can change on you...how ONE second can put us from life on earth to life in ETERNITY.  Please think about where you are with the Lord.

And please pray for the family of that 15 year old Amish boy.

  1. WOW! This certainly is a reminder that life is nothing but a vapor.

I was also reminded when reading this that so many times when we are in the "here & now" we feel like things certainly can't get any better/worse...whatever the situation may be. Looking back to 2007 just shows that life is constantly happening around. We certainly do not know the future, but I am so glad that God does!
